Cooking Matters

July 24, 2013
I'm an advocate for No Kid HungryThe No Kid Hungry campaign connects kids in need with nutritious food and teaches their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals. The campaign also engages the public to make ending childhood hunger a national priority.

No Kid Hungry has a program called Cooking Matters that empowers low-income families with the skills to shop and cook healthy on a budget.

Here’s some of what you can find in the Cooking Matters app:
  • Healthy versions of family favorites like macaroni and cheese, lasagna and French toast
  • Easy-to-use tips to stretch your money at the grocery store to buy healthy food
  • Full nutrition information for every recipe and large color photos
  • Recipes filtered by meal; main ingredient; or categories like 30-minute meals, diabetes friendly, one-dish meal, seasonal and kid-approved

I'm looking forward  to trying English Muffin Breakfast Sandwiches, Baked Flaked Fish with Tarter Sauce, and Pumpkin Muffins.

I hope you enjoy the app and pick up some handy tips too! Be sure to tweet @NoKidHungry #NoKidHungry when you've downloaded the app and/or have tried a healthy recipe.
