Braces Then, Invisalign Now

I had braces from fifth to seventh grade. Once I got my braces off, I got retainers. How well do you think that turned out? I eventually stopped wearing them and my bottom teeth went crooked within a week. A week. Just by looking at me, you wouldn’t know my teeth weren’t perfect, but if I pointed it out, you could tell. So from 8th grade until I graduated college, I had crooked teeth because I didn’t wear my retainers and didn’t want to get braces again, nor would my parents pay for braces again.

After I moved to California and got my big girl job, I headed straight to the orthodontist who specializes in Invisalign. Gone are the days of “wrap around” metal brackets, bonded brackets and big clunky head and neck gears. As technology enhances our daily lives, it also continues to advance the science of orthodontics.

The only way you could tell I was wearing Invisalign were the bumps on two of my teeth. They are further back on a lot of people, but the way my teeth were, I needed them on the sides more. They are white and blended in with my teeth, but in certain angles, like this one, you could tell. I had an event to go to and my orthodontist removed the bumps for the event since I was going to be in a lot of up close photos.

I didn't talk funny or have an excess amount of spit in my mouth like when wearing a retainer.

Invisalign & Invisalign Teen are becoming so popular. The system uses a series of clear aligners made of lightweight plastic that sit smoothly on the teeth, allowing for a more comfortable fit and they work as effectively as traditional metal braces.  The best part is that you can’t see them.

Since the aligners can be removed, kids and adults can eat, brush and floss as they would normally. I could smile with confidence while straightening my teeth.

Invisalign costs roughly the same amount as metal braces and my orthodontist gave me a military discount. Invisalign requires fewer office visits, shorter appointments and no emergency visits….unless your dog eats your trays.

I still have scars in my mouth from my metal braces. I’m happy to say Invisalign was a great experience that did not pain me. Invisalign is great for business people and active teens. I’m not sharing before and after photos because I think up close photos of mouths are gross.
