Show & Tell Monday; Home Edition

Our Virginia Beach House

Preface: This post is written with a bit of bitterness. Due to timing, we only saw our current house online and signed a lease before we stepped foot in Virginia. Sometimes in the military, that’s how things have to be done. We dislike this house and miss our great houses in California, but we have made this house our own.

If you were searching for a home now, tell me what would be on your "MUST" list.
Fence We have two dogs and one son, privacy and barriers are needed for everyone. It can’t just be any fence though, with our dogs, it needs to be high (jumping-over-proof) and partially underground (digging-under-proof).
Walk-in Closets No explanation needed.
Spacious Kitchen Ideally, I would have an island, though there are kitchens that provide plenty of counter space without an island. I would make more complex meals if I had the space. I don’t like cluttering up my counters and not having much room to work, so right now, it’s simple meals.
4-6 Bedrooms Master, guest, play room, Brady’s room and office. Ideally, one more for working out so I don’t have to continue to do that in my office.
Big yard &/or pool If we were to continue to live on the East Coast, a pool is mandatory. The humidity here is disgusting. When we move back to California, a pool isn’t mandatory but would be a nice-to-have. Big yards are hard to come by in California, but we have been lucky in the past, so that’s a definite must-have.

Show me your favorite room in a home {either your home, or any home, i.e. kitchen}.
My favorite room in our current house is Brady’s playroom. It’s the FROG (Finished Room Over the Garage) and it’s huge. You can see all the photos here.

If you could have any room redone, tell me which one would it be and what would you like done?
My office. I didn’t put much work into this office because if I did, I would get all new furniture and that’s not justifiable right now. I got new furniture a couple of years ago, but I’m over it. I would redo this room because it’s where I am from 7:30a – 5:30p, on average.

Tell me where your favorite stores are to shop for home decor.
TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Target and Pier 1. I also do a lot of shopping online. We didn’t buy much for this house since we know we are moving in a couple of years. At first, we bought a few pieces to make it feel more like home, but we realized we won't be here very long, and every time we move, we buy things to fit the house--gotta stop doing that!

Show me your dream home {it can be your home as well}
I don’t have an ideal home, but I did a quick Google search and came up with a couple of homes that I like. One on the East Coast and one on the West Coast, because styles are so different. When would I ever be able to afford or need to live in a house this large? Never, but it’s fun to look.

WEST COAST:
This really doesn't look like something I would dream up, but it's a large house on the Pacific Ocean. That's all I ask :)

EAST COAST:

Beach House in Virginia Beach. This is nothing like my house in Virginia Beach. It's not that attractive, but it's on the beach and is very expensive.

My ideal East Coast house is a brick house with white trim.
This definitely isn't my ideal home, but I can't find an image of what I'm dreaming up. There are a lot around town that I like, but I'm not going to drive around just to take a photo for the blog! :)

Looking forward to next week's topic: Wedding Bells
